Things you’ll need:

• 1 ½ yards of flannel
• 1 ½ yards of fleece, the softest you can find
• 3 ½ yards of silk or satin smooth ribbon
• Scissors
• Matching Thread
• Pins

Step 1

Wash the flannel and the fleece fabrics by hand, first and foremost.  You need to get rid of any dirt stuck on the cloths or allergens that might be harmful for your baby and cause allergies.  Use a mild detergent soap, possibly the one with anti-bacterial protection component in it.  Fabric conditioner is not advisable since it is too sweet for the baby’s smell but if you really want to soak it and make the cloths ultra soft, find the most subtle smelling one.  Hang to cloths to dry and refrain from the spin drier since it will lose its shape.

Step 2

Iron out the fabrics prior to the sewing process.  Ironing will get all the wrinkles and you’ll have a smooth base to start with.  It is much easier to sew cloths that are wrinkle-free.

Step 3

Place the back side of the flannel and back side of the silk or satin ribbon together and sew it on the edges of the cloth.

Step 4

Fold the ribbon in half by the top side.  Iron the folded ribbon to establish a base for the fleece.  Place the fleece on top and make sure that both cloths are fit to each other and sew the other side of the ribbon on the fleece.  To stick the fabrics together, add one more round of stitching on the cloths.

Tips:

• The ribbon will act as an accent on the blanket.
